In Fall 2017, then-Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Scott Waugh requested that all UCLA deans, department chairs, vice chancellors, and vice provosts receive a Leadership Briefing from the Discrimination Prevention Office. Since then, the audience has expanded to include other members of the campus leadership, including all deans’ senior leadership groups.
The Leadership Briefing
The Discrimination Prevention Office opened in Fall 2014 in response to the Moreno Report. Since then, the Office has been investigating complaints of discrimination and harassment based on race, national origin, religion, age, and other categories protected by law and University policy. The Office is also charged with providing education and guidance on discrimination and harassment to UCLA faculty and members of the campus leadership.
The Leadership Briefing is provided for deans, department chairs, vice chancellors, vice provosts, and deans’ senior leadership groups. Equity Advisors and others with senior leadership or administrative roles are also invited to attend.
The Briefing addresses applicable laws, policies, and procedures concerning discrimination, harassment and retaliation, as well as reporting obligations and the complaint investigation process.
