Agenda
1. Intros and Announcements (TL, 7 mins)
2. Michael Update (TL, 3 mins)
a. Update on Michael’s health. Michael has expressed gratitude to the committee for their support while he is out.
b. Carolanne and Travis are in communication with his departmental HR rep about options.
3. Adaptive Rec Update (CL, 3 mins)
a. Carolanne has been in contact with the Program Director for Competitive Sports. Wheelchair Basketball will be moved from regularly scheduled to by request. A week in advance notice and minimum of six people participating are required.
b. How can UCOD support adaptive rec?
c. Suggestion for UCOD to coordinate specific dates during the summer.
d. DSU, other disability-focused clubs, CAE, Disability Studies, and Staff Assembly are suggested as groups who can promote or partner.
e. Travis will put together a Google sheet for sign-ups for those interested in participating in wheelchair basketball on Tuesday, July 14th, 4:30-6pm
4. Adjusted Election Timeline (CL, 5 mins)
a. Asynchronous version of leadership elections due to scheduling issues this year.
b. Leadership positions turning over: 1 chair, 2 vice chairs, 1 secretary, 1 voting facilitator, 1 physical spaces subcommittee head, 1 events/DPW subcommittee head, 1 leadership attaché (no one serving in this role currently, added to by-laws in 2024).
c. Three inactive positions: treasurer, technology/website subcommittee chair, newsletter subcommittee chair.
d. Send candidacy announcements to Carolanne by June 14th.
e. Carolanne will send candidacy announcements to the voting members by June 15th.
f. Candidates send recorded video statements by June 28th to Carolanne.
g. Carolanne will send the asynchronous ballot the week of June 29th. Votes must be entered by July 11th.
h. Leadership will be announced at the July UCOD meeting (July 14th).
5. Begin DPW Planning (TL, QO, EP, 20 mins)
a. Emilia and Quinn have started meeting about logistics.
b. Funding: Travis will ask OARC to house funds.
c. Events: Tabled til next meeting.
d. Committee votes for the launch party to be October 13th.
6. Emergency Response Advisors (TL, 5 mins)
a. OEM has requested UCOD to be consultants around disability and emergency response.
b. There will be an accessibility coordinator on every campus in each Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
c. Out of scope: roll out of IEP (CAE), new equipment (fire department).
d. OEM plans to report to UCOD and ask for feedback.
7. Elevator 311 App (CL, TL, 5 mins)
a. Elevator Outage & Statuses page has not been updated recently.
b. UCOD had suggested that 311 app could be a place to submit disability-specific feedback, perhaps as a specific tag or another field after the category selection.
c. Plan for UCOD to draft a specific recommendation to 311 app.
8. Departmental Updates and Open Floor (10 mins)
a. Career Center is switching to new software: 12twenty
9. Closed Door Meeting (Voting Members, 10 mins)
a. Discussion of Leadership Attaché role.
b. Committee votes on whether Leadership Attaché will be required to complete the leadership election process. Committee votes yes.
c. Committee votes on whether Leadership Attaché should attend leadership meetings. Committee votes yes.
d. Committee votes on whether Leadership Attaché should attend closed door voting meetings. Motion does not pass.
Action Items
- Travis will ask to reserve space for wheelchair basketball for July 14th and will create a sign-up form.
- Travis will ask Events to book Bruin Plaza for October 13th, October 19th as a backup option.
- Travis will share the draft of the Emergency Plan for Disabled People at UCLA with Seán.
- Carolanne will send Omar an email about the issues with the 311 app.
- Sanaz will confirm which DPW date will work for the Career Fair.
