2. Laura Mendoza Birthday (5 mins)

a. Remembering Laura on her birthday.  Laura’s GoFundMe is still available for those who want to donate.  

3. Debrief Disability Pride Week (Everyone, 15 mins)

a. Marketing earlier for programming and more coordination between tables would be helpful.

b. Next year, avoid scheduling on Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

c. Loud music presented some issues for tabling and job fair.

4. DCP/Strategic Communications launching disability newsletter (Travis and Carolanne, 15 mins)

a. Idea came out of UWAI Steering Committee for newsletter targeted at developers

b. Strat Comm is supportive of a monthly newsletter with a broader scope of disability and accessibility for the whole campus.

c. Mock-up of newsletter: news, community member, blog, and video spotlights, call to action, campus disability news, and accessibility tip.   

d. CAE has its own monthly newsletter focusing on departmental news which goes to CAE registered students and anyone who signs up.  

e. Let Travis and Carolanne know if you have any name ideas for the newsletter.

5. Daily Bruin Article on CAE (Travis and others interviewed, 10 mins)

a. Extensive article comparing other UC campuses to UCLA is currently being worked on.

6. New Disability Studies major (Caitlin, 10 mins)

a. Lots of interest in the major, some students double majoring.  Please share with students you work with: Disability Studies Major information

b. Includes faculty from 25 departments.  After cross-appointments are determined, there will be a open recruitment for new faculty.    

7. HCI pitch for mobile disability app (Carolanne, 10 mins)

a. Carolanne is on the Semel Healthy Campus Initiative Steering Committee

b. Proposal: an app or website that could use MetaMap content and other information and resources for disabled students, staff, and faculty, as well as others using the campus (Paralympics 2028)

c. UCOD votes to endorse the creation of this app.  

8. Open for department updates (10 mins)

a. Regents will be presented with the final report of the Students with Disabilities Working Group this week.

b. CAE updates: 

Three new specialists hired.  Hopefully will be staffed by end of the quarter.  

Will soon be launching search for Associate Director.  Students will be involved in the search process.  

Moving forward, each school will have a specific assigned specialist.  North campus will have assigned specialists and south campus will have assigned specialists.  Current ratio: 1 specialist to 340 students.

Launching new database management tool for specialists to automate certain processes for specialists.
