This year’s distinguished Morris Lecturer, Anna Spain Bradley, Professor of Law and the Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at UCLA, will present on “Combating Global Racism: A Human Rights Perspective.” This event is free, virtual, and open to the public.

Anna Spain Bradley is Professor of Law and the Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at UCLA.
Vice Chancellor Spain Bradley is a leading scholar of international law, international human rights, and international dispute resolution. Her current research focuses on global understandings of racism and human rights; she serves as a legal expert to the United Nations on these matters. She is the author of two books and a casebook: Human Choice in International Law (Cambridge University Press, June 2021), Global Racism (forthcoming, Oxford University Press, forthcoming), and International Dispute Resolution (Carolina Academic Press, with Mary Ellen O’Connell and Amy J. Cohen, forthcoming 2021). She has also published widely in scholarly journals. Spain Bradley is a recipient of the 2018 OZY Educator Award, the 2018 Gamm Justice Award, and the 2014 American Society of International Law’s Francis Lieber Award for her article The U.N. Security Council’s Duty to Decide, published in the Harvard National Security Journal.
Prior to joining UCLA, Spain Bradley was a Professor of Law and the Assistant Vice Provost for Faculty Development and Diversity at the University of Colorado Boulder. She previously practiced international law as an Attorney-Adviser at the U.S. Department of State Office of the Legal Adviser where she received two Meritorious Honor Awards for her work representing the U.S. before the Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal in The Hague and as a delegate to the United Nations Compensation Commission in Geneva. Professor Spain Bradley also has policy experience working on climate change at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and on international trade agreements at the Office of the United States Trade Representative.
Vice Chancellor Spain Bradley is a graduate of Harvard Law School where she served as an executive editor of the Harvard Human Rights Journal and was a recipient of the Heyman Fellowship, the Irving R. Kaufman Fellowship and the Reginald F. Lewis Fellowship. She earned her B.A. at Denison University in environmental studies with a concentration in economics and clerked for the Honorable Judge Raymond Finch in the U.S. District Court of the U.S. Virgin Islands. She is a member of the American Bar Association, American Society of International Law (former Executive Council member), Council on Foreign Relations and Mediators Beyond Borders (Founding Member and former Board Member). About the lecture
John P. Morris was the first—and, for a long time, the only—African-American faculty member at ASU Law. He had a lasting impact on those who knew him. This annual lecture series was established to honor his memory. The topic of each lecture relates in some way to the legal issues surrounding diversity and inclusion today. The lecture provides an invaluable opportunity for our students, faculty, and staff, as well as the general public, to learn more about the work being done across the country and the world to address inequality and injustice.
